Thunderbird files backing themselves up to Dropbox. How to stop this?
I've been setting up a new computer and somehow, without intending to do so, a couple of my Thunderbird folders (e.g. Sent and also one in which I store files on a particular topic) have started backing themselves up daily to Dropbox. I cannot figure out how to stop this from happening, neither in Thunderbird nor in Dropbox. Any hints would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

It's strange that only those two folders are backing up to Dropbox, and not all of them.
As long as Thunderbird is not storing these folders in your Dropbox folder, then I cannot see any way at all that Thunderbird is doing this.
Right-click on one of the folders in Thunderbird and choose Properties. In Location is where that folder is being stored on the hard drive. In Local Folders, the format of the location should have the file path prefixed by mailbox:/// If the folder is not in your Dropbox folder, then you can be sure that Thunderbird is not the culprit.
Then it is a matter of looking at ways outside of Thunderbird to explain this, and that is outside of the purview of this support site. You will have to look closer at your Dropbox controls and files in your Dropbox folder.

Thanks Bruce. I figured out that the Thunderbird files are stored "in the right place", according to your directions, so now will shift my focus to Dropbox and search for a solution there. Helen
