Pdf's attached to email are trying to open in Paint?

When I've been sent a pdf as an email attachment and I click to download it, it is added to the download list as a Paint document. When I try to open it, I get a message saying it can't be opened in Paint. Please help.

Assuming that you are referring to using Firefox to access web mail ...

Check your settings for PDF in the Applications Panel.

Thanks for answering. I couldn't find anything on my computer called Applications Panel, but it's fixed. After I posted my question, I noticed that every PDF in my Documents had become a Paint file. No clue how I did that, but managed to fix one and the others fell into line. In the end, it had nothing to do with Downloads, but I'll never know what happened.
