Hi All

Had a problem with Windows 10 yesterday and accidentally reset my system thinking it was just going to redo the windows apps and not realize it was going to redo my entire Windows set up programs included.

So been putting my system back together .

Now when I upgraded to Win10 last year I thought I had saved a back up but must have accidentally moved the files for Firefox and Thunderbird instead of copying them so I do not have a copy of the files that I backed up at the time.

I did find a much older copy from like 4 years ago but it was apparently prior to some accounts of mine being set up so does not have the log in details saved for that site being prior.

Now while I was browsing around my C drive I noticed the OLD WINDOWS folder and saw that files are in fact there from last year. But I seem to be having some issues when I copy these over to the roaming and local folders. as when I do it comes up with the following error message

"Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible "

So if this is not going to work importing the old profile from last year is there any sort of way to recover the username and password list from that old profile so I can regain access to the accounts created after my current profile I am using now from 2012.

If not is there any way to fix this so it find the profile from last year as it won't at present when I move things over.

Actually I found the solution. The two files below contain the log in details and once i copied the old files into the new profile folder it replaced the new logs ins with the old which was what I needed as it was complete unlike the new one which was missing alot!

Both of these are in the folder that would reside at the location below Note you have to view hidden folders in order to see this. At the top of windows explorer just click the VIEW tab and there is an option here to view hidden folders

C:\Users\Your compluters name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Your folder will have it's own unique ID

If you have multiple unique folders just open each until you find which folder contains both the files below and replace!

Yeah I got super super lucky as just before finding the folder Windows popped up saying my drive space was getting low did I want to remove the old windows and I selected yes then I stumbled upon the Windows.old folder and poked into in in the middle of Windows deleting it.

And somehow before it was removed I managed to save a copy of the Files and folders in question. Had a bunch of problems with the files making me think perhaps Windows had already deleted some of the file so I gave up then I got thinking about the password files so I checked on that and had to restore the files from my recycle bin but got super super lucky that the 2 needed files were still there so when I tested this new idea luckily it worked perfectly. I mean their all a year old but was enough of a back up to get me into 99% of the accounts I needed to get into and the last few I can simply recover via the recovery system on the site.

Just wish I hadn't selected yes otherwise could have recovered several years worth of mails also HA HA but got the most important stuff back!
