Hello, Sorry about the problem you are facing.

SSE2 (Streaming SIMD Extensions 2), is one of the Intel SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) processor supplementary instruction sets.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html Please download this software, it is called CPU-Z, this checks if you SSE2 is present in your system or not.

Also, please check the system requirements for Firefox 49.0.1 in the link below: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/49.0.1/system-requirements/

If anyone of the requirements do not meet your system's, then i am afraid you cannot use Firefox 49.0.1 on your computer.

Please share a screenshot of the information given by CPU-Z for a better understanding of this problem.

If your system doesn't meet the requirements, do not worry, you can always download a previous version and use it. Please check out more on installing an older version here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-older-version-of-firefox

This is a Windows error when a file is damaged, however please consider seeing a computer technician if you are seeing this in multiple programs.

For Firefox, I can recommend a clean reinstall:

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox.

If this answer solved your problem, please take a moment to mark it as the chosen solution. If the problem still persists, please do let us know. Thank you :-)

This error message only happens with Firefox. I removed Firefox completely and reinstalled. Now I get a error message stating as follows;

Sorry, Firefox cannot be installed. This version of Firefox requires a processor with SSE2 support. Please click the ok button for additional information.

which security software are you using?

Downloaded the CPU software and its an AMD sempron3000+. Under instructions its has MMX(+), 3DNOW(+), SSE I downloaded version 48.2 and it works so we can safely assume that the version 49 is not compatible for this old but healthy computer. I have Avast antivirus software and could not get the latest version for it so I am presuming everyone is also not supporting XP or this old computer. It is a good computer (Compaq-presario) and wont die on me. In fact it works just as good as my newer one. Thank you.

Hello, Glad to know that your problem has been solved. It was a pleasure serving you. Thank you for the opportunity! Have a great day :-)
