What add ons do I need for Windows XP to increase speed

What I know best about computers is how to let the smoke out, they run on smoke. I am trying to make my computer more usable but don't know where to start. Google Chrome does not support XP anymore, I was told Firefox does, how do I make the magic happen? I am not real savvy on computers so it needs to be simple as possible.

Yes, Firefox still does "work" on WinXP but maybe for not much longer. There's already a problem with just downloading Firefox that started with Firefox 44 - users can't "download" the latest version. They get Firefox 43.0.1 and then have to update Firefox once it is installed to have the current Release version.

Other than using an adblocker to stop the ads from being downloaded, there is no magic elixir to make an on PC faster. And maybe using NoScript will help, but it is a "pain" to use, constant "allowing" of 3rd party domains just to see webpages until you get it "trained" to your favorite websites. I've used it for 10 years and have seen the web evolve, and now wonder if I would start using it today. I do still use it, but the extreme learning curve is behind me. Not for the feint of heart.

Try uBlock Oriign and see how that works for you. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
