Thunderbird keeps asking for gmail passwords, previous "solutions" don't work.

Every time I open Thunderbird I get little boxes asking for the gmail passwords for the two gmail accounts I have. I enter the correct password and the box just keeps popping up again until instead of entering the password I just hit "cancel". This does not seem to affect the ability for me to send and receive email on these two gmail accounts but is still annoying and in my experience not fixing such problems usually means something is wrong and will cause trouble down the line. It stopped happening for a few weeks, but then there was a new update of Thunderbird (the latest) which I installed, and then the problem started happening again. I had this problem on my windows 7 sp1 computer which I have recently updated to Windows 10 but the problem remains exactly the same as it was in windows 7. Threads re this or similar problems have been posted, I see, a number of times but none of the solutions suggested work, including the one in a thread the moderator closed as "solved".

I don't have a lightning calendar on google but thank you for the information that, I gather, one can sync one's Thunderbird and Google calendars. I'll have to look into that. But I guess you can mark this as solved, I figured it out myself by going to Tools/accounts/ and server settings for the two accounts and changing the authentication method to "OAuth2". Thank you. BTW if I might make a comment and suggestion, I was eventually able to figure this out from guesses I made based on a number of posts. It would be a lot easier for people like me, who are just trying to work with what they have, if half of the posts re problems were not cluttered with comments knocking Mozilla or knocking Microsoft or knocking Google. Just IMHO. Regards, Pawlly

I close lots of threads solved.

Do you have a lightning calendar on Google? The last few time folks have been asking about gmail passwords it was because they were being asked for their gmail password for the calendar.
