I've only been using Ubuntu Linux 14.04 & Thunderbird for a month.I know I set up my ISP details correctly but the question details my problem.Have I done something wrong? I have been using MS Outlok Express for years with no problems & i have also recently used T'bird & sending emails on Win XP without having this happen. These carets <> refuse any delete method.Oh,& if anyone sends me a request for more info I'have to fire up my XP m/c & reply via Outlook.!

Do the angle brackets appear in your account settings? They don't need to be there and since it's just a text field, it's hard to see why you'd have any trouble editing them.

Your email addresses will appear inside the angle brackets, quite properly, in the message itself when sent. If you examine received messages, (use ctrl+u) which clearly have been successfully processed, you'll see addresses there are bracketed.

Users occasionally complain about unwanted quotes, which are normally applied because there is a special character somewhere in the address that needs special treatment. Accidentally inserted leading spaces, and commas, are the usual culprits. But I don't know of any similar mechanism that might add brackets.
