Server setting check for messages every X minutes not checking
I have a large archive of emails that I need to pop3 off of a Google Apps account. Google rate limits and volume limits the call to about 250 messages per get message command. I configred the server setting to check for mail every 1 minute. The expected behavior was that every 1 minute it would do a get messages call, but no calls are ever issued. I have Thunderbird 45.1.1 on Windows 10 X64.
I also note the "Automatically download new messages". What is the proper configuration to allow me to leave it running and eventually download all the messages from the account?

go here https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout and get you mail from Gmail.
Then get this add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/
Then use the add-on to import the mbox file. Instead of trying to use a mattock to dig an open cut mine use the right sort of tools.
BTW it usually takes a pop setting more than one minute to establish and start getting mail. Especially is you use an anti virus which double or more the time it takes to get mail. Anything less than 5 minute intervals is extremely prone to errors and in the case of outlook/hotmail can lead to account suspension for breach of terms of service They limit you to 15 minute intervals.

I set the download frequency to 2 minutes. If you go to Tools-->Activity Monitor, it seems that either the filters or the indexing wasn't completing before the time slot for the next round of downloads. Setting the download time to 2 minutes and then unchecking and rechecking the Automatically download appears to have worked.
I also did have one issue with a stoppped filter run where I had to choose the folder-->Properties and do a repair on the folder too.
