My Thunderbird Software Frequently locks up for 5-10 minutes. (win10, Spectrum ISP, Gmail account) SOLVED Caused by "Allow Windows Search to search messages"
My Thunderbird Software Frequently locks up for no reason. I have Windows 10. How do I fix this? I have to wait 5 to 10 minutes for it to unlock and work normally. Rebooting helps. But this is very frustrating. I'm runneing Thunderbird version 45.

No. The problem did not go away.
I have read and tried all of the responding fixes received so far... including the comment that telling me that Charter>Spectrum>Time Warner Cable ISPs are causing my problem. None of these fixes nor the comments have been the least bit helpful so far.
As for the ISP being at fault, my grandson, who lives in Oxnard, his ISP is the same as mine. He also uses Thunderbird. He said that his Thunderbird app is not having any freeze-ups nor any other problems.
Hey guys. I really do need an effective fix more my Thunderbird issue. Are there any better ideas/fixes out there? Please.

you haven't quite your response format correct yet. BTW, Microsoft in their infinite wisdom changed the URL for Windows 10 safe mode. The correct link is - win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
Hello, Wayne. "you haven't quite your response format correct yet." Please explain. the meaning is not clear.
Also, I followed the instructions per the above web link, twice, vey carefully. Could not get my PC into safe mode. Sorry. Is there something else we can do for an effective fix?

Because between 2:01 and 2:25pm EST today I got three emails from this topic that have every appearance of being posting response attempts by you ... but postings were actually missing anything new typed by you.

You say here you could get your PC into safe mode, but previously you said you put windows in safe mode. Which comment should I trust? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode is really not difficult at all.

Wayne,
See the next post. I copied and pasted your comments and mine for some clarity of what we both have said thus far. :-)

Wayne Mery said Safe modes have nothing to do with registry or internals, and the instructions are written with the average user in minde to be easy to perform. I tend to recommend to make the first test be Windows and Thunderbird safe mode at the same time. Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win10 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10 Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird Does problem go away?
Wayne: Sorry for any confusion I may have caused you. Today again I started with the Microsoft article bold text "Start your PC in [Windows] Safe Mode in Windows 10." Also, I chose to use the "from settings" route. Carefully following each step, I pressed: 1.settings 2.update & security>recovery. 3.advanced startup>restart now. 4.After the restart, I pressed choose an option>troubleshoot>advanced options>startup settings>restart. 5.The problem here is that "restart" resulted in normal restarts. No safe mode. I tried this procedure several times, BTW. What am I missing? I also read on another poop-sheet that while I'm in Windows safe mode, I'm to put the system in Thunderbird safe mode. There is nothing telling me that there is an added step to make the needed fix. How could placing the PC in Thunderbird safe mode fix the lockup without doing anything while in Thunderbird safe mode?? Please tell me what step I missed. I want to get the lock-up problem fixed. Please help.
(to close the loop) This got solved in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1154444 - caused by Windows Search indexing.
Sorry, I never got back about safe mode. I don't know what went wrong.
