Firefox freezes when surfing then freezes computor -tried all remedies

This happens on many sites. It will freeze, I try closing and then the pc freezes. I can't even open task manager to close the program. After one or two minutes the pc will beep and either open the site or close firefox. If I try to open the same site again, it may or may not freeze. Windows 7 Pro. This similar scenario happens on my 2nd laptop also but not as severe.

Have you tried opening Firefox in safe mode yet ?
