How can I get Thunderbird to access my new email address?

My ISP lets me have up to 10 email addresses by varying what I put in front of the @ symbol. I've been trying to create a new address for a society I help and have created the address on my ISPs site. But I cannot get it to be added to my addresses on Thunderbird.

I've tried the Help pages and gone through through Tools > Account Settings > Manage Identities to add the new address under my main address, but this does not work. The address is not listed with my others under the Inbox sidebar, and attempts to write emails to this address do not succeed. They do not provoke an error message either which implies my creation of the address at the ISP worked so I think Thunderbird is the problem.

It might be that each email address has its own password and I couldn't see anywhere to add the new password on Thunderbird.

Can anyone help please?

I got it! Identities was not what I wanted, thanks for the hint anyway. It was Tools > Account Settings > Account Actions > Add Mail Account. I entered the details for the new account and, after a period of searching, the new identity appeared on the left and the email I sent earlier appeared. I had assumed from its name that this option was for totally new accounts rather than an additional ID under an existing one.

If that's the case Identities is not what you want. Please clarify what you want.

The address is not listed with my others under the Inbox sidebar,

That typically happens when you set up a POP account for Global Inbox. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Global_Inbox

and attempts to write emails to this address do not succeed.

You'd need to explain that in more detail.
