Sending of message failed

I get out of the blue problems sending messages.

Yesterday with mail.mydomain.com ..now also with 

mail.pobox.xom

Didn't change anything at all. using Thunderbird 38.6.0

Any help is very highly appreciated. I'm in deep problems now. Thank you in advance Jack

PS: the message which pops up

Sending Message Error Sending of the message failed. An Error occurred while sending of mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.pobox.com The server may be incorrectly configured. Please verify that your outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

forgot to mention. I'm using Thunderbird on a MAC (no virus etc.. prg.)
