Converting the "new" MSN address book to import to Thunderbird

As far as I can determine, the newer MSN mail/explorer no longer has an export option. The only thing you can do is print the list, and I did so to a PDF file, but first wasted a LOT of printer paper. As near as I can tell, the file format is a bit hard to convert to just a CSV file, other than by hand, which would take a very long time. I started doing it on Excel but it would take a very, very long time. So, I'd even be willing to pay for a service/program that would be able to generate a CSV file in Thunderbird format. I'd appreciate any help or ideas. Please note that MSN has changed; anything that you google or so far in Thunderbird help, will not work as there is no longer an export function. I'd be thrilled to know I missed something! Sheila

Chosen solution

Try this: go to the MSN home page, click the Outlook.com icon at the top left to sign into your (msn, hotmail, outlook, live) email, go to the Inbox, click the app icon next to the Outlook.com icon at the top left, click on People, click on Manage/'Export for Outlook.com and other services', save the OutlookContacts.csv file.

To prepare the csv for import to TB, see this post. You will want to organize the csv columns to better match the TB address book layout.

Have you asked in an MSN support forum about exporting to CSV? We can help with importing to Thunderbird but many of us won't know anything about MSN functionality.

I did searches, but to be honest, I didn't stay with it. There are so many conflicting answers that are in conflict, such as: Hot mail, live mail, outlook, MSN mail, and I may have missed one. They say there is only one mail now and the others are gone, but when chatting with them, they had me using some of the old addresses, but it didn't help. They don't even know their own products!!! Frustrating, to be sure.

Thanks, I missed that. It only works if you sign in from the web, not within the MSN app. All the new "app" icons rather than menus threw me off also. Sadly it's a little late for my friend who I was trying to help save the ridiculous over $50 change for her "MSN" account, which they had screwed up on the renewal. So she was "ransomed" into paying for it. !!!!!!!!!THANKS!!!!!!! Sheila
