Hello,

I use Thunderbird with three gmail account. I made security control in one of them to get more space on Google Drive. Now I can no longer send e-mail via Thunderbird, I can only accept. What is strange is that my two other gmail account works without problems (I have not made a security control on them). I tried all possible solutions such as turn on the less secure apps at gmail settings etc. I get the following error message when I try to send email from Thunderbird: 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. lh1sm24682735wjb.20 - gsmtp It can not be wrong on TB, it is wrong in my gmail account as I did security checks.

Windows Vista TB 38.6.0

Please help me!

Chosen solution

Those are incoming settings.. go to the bottom of the list in that dialog or the entry ending in POST in there are your outgoing Google settings for their SMTP server. It is there outgoing issues can be fixed.

Hi,

Google invites you to make security control once a year and as a reward, you get extra space on Google Drive.

Here is the link: https://security.google.com/settings/security/secureaccount

I got 2Gb extra, I did not change my preferences but I can not send mail now through the TB.

No problems at all with my other Gmail account.

Want to try? It might go well for you, but maybe not as it went for me. ;)

Come back and tell us whether it was good for you if you want to test the link above.

Go here https://myaccount.google.com/security?pli=1 is 2 step verification Off?

If no, have you created an application password for Thunderbird?

Hi Matt,

2 step verification is Off.

It would be interesting to know if anyone here on the forum has made security verification / control.

Someone who has done it or dare to do it?

2 step verification is Off.

Then you'll either need to create an app password for Thunderbird, or allow less secure apps, or if your account is IMAP, use OAuth2 authentication. https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754

Hey Matt, You did security control and everything works to be for you. Tell me, what version is your TB and your windows? I'll activate the 2 step verification, and then disable it to see if there was change.

A little update about the situation:

I turned on 2 step verification, deleted my account from TB and configured my account again on TB with 2 step verification, and it worked for reading new emails but I got the same error to send email again.

Now I have tested disable 2 step verification and configured on my account on TB, the fault remains.

I can not understand why it was impossible to send email from TB.

Here is a picture of how my configurations on TB looks like: (The language is Swedish but the configuration is the same)

Better yet, post your Troubleshooting Information. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the Copy text to clipboard button and paste the information into your reply.

YEAH!

It works now, you were right, it was outgoing settings that were changed after the security check. How? I have no idea... I opened where you said and found that my other account had the same settings, but not the one I had a problem so I copied the same settings to my account and now it works.

Thank you everyone who showed interest to help me, I am very thankful to you all.

Special thanks to Matt who dedicated all the time and solved the problem.
