Incorporating Eset into Firefox
I can't find anywhere in the settings of Firefox to setup a virus scanner. Everything I download just downloads and isn't scanned.
Chosen solution
Hmm, most likely it is being scanned, but this doesn't show up in Firefox's download list.
Firefox integrates with Windows' download security by tagging downloads as having originated from the internet. You may notice when opening documents in a Microsoft application that you see a bar warning about that. Meanwhile, ESET's real-time protection should intercept every single file save and file move operation and check the document at that point.
If you're concerned that ESET isn't protecting against download problems in real time, you can test with the EICAR file. Security researchers created the test file, which doesn't do anything bad, to check whether AV software is running correctly. You can read more about it here:
On my Firefox, all of my attempted downloads of the EICAR file show as "Failed" without explanation. By cross-checking the log in my security software, I can see that it grabbed them and quarantined them before Firefox could move the file from the Windows TEMP folder to my designated downloads folder. (Screen shot attached, the path is cut off but it's the TEMP folder.)

Yep I get a page can't load screen etc depending on which file I click and the log shows it.
