thunderbird email opens on account page and won't load emails all of a sudden

the normal email page doesn't open -- it shows mail is there, but the inbox won't open -- have 2 account s in comcast and neither one will open

Start Thunderbird in safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Then

  • go to Tools (Alt-T) - Add-ons
  • remove the Lightning add-on
  • restart Thunderbird
  • if you need the Lightning add-on, add it back at Tools - Add-ons

further info -- can open the emaii in the comcast web page, but not in thunderbird

further info -- the page says "home" and looks like my account info stuff

further info -- I uninstalled my old thunderbird program and downloaded the latest version -- same result -- just a "home" page and still can't open anything

Then

  • go to Tools (Alt-T) - Add-ons
  • remove the Lightning add-on
  • restart Thunderbird
  • if you need the Lightning add-on, add it back at Tools - Add-ons

That solved the problem -- did notice that when I went to add-ons, Lighting was disabled, removed it and restarted, emails all good now -- since I don't know what this is for, I'm not likely to add it back in.
