Recipients unable to open .xls file
Sent email to several people with a .xlsb file attached. They are not able to open the file
Chosen solution
They need to have a current version of Excel (a Microsoft Office program), or an alternate spreadsheet, like LibreOffice calc or OpenOffice calc. Not everyone has one of these programs, and they will be unable to open the file. For those persons who do not have one of the spreadsheet programs mentioned, an option would be to export the file in PDF format. The recipient can then view, but not manipulate the data.

Why are you using a .xlsb file and not the standard .xls? Does any of this apply?
Disadvantages and downsides of .xlsb files:
– No Ribbon modification allowed for XLSB formats. You must convert back to XLSM, make your Ribbon changes, and then back to XLSB – A potential lack of interoperability with OpenOffice – Not compatible with Excel 2003 and previous versions
Thanks. I just had the new suite of office installed and I assumed my files were being saved as .xls. I re-saved and it worked fine.
