I have used this account for many years. Nothing has been changed on it. Yest all of a sudden I am unable to receive or send any massages. My folders and old messages are still there but when I try to send or receive it gives me then error. "Login to server smtp, Comcast.net Failed. then gives choices of RETRY, ENTER NEW PASSWORD OR CANCEL. I PUSH X . it gives me this: Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent using SMTP server smtp.comcast.net for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator.

This started over a month ago, Luckily I am still able to get and receive massages through the Comcast home page. but all of my saved mails, Addresses and cell phone notifications are connected to the Firefox page. I have no idea what happened and I would really like to get it fixed with out losing every thing. Can anyone help me??? Thank you in advance. Sincerely Diana Hill

Please check your Anti-virus/firewall product. Is it set to allow Thunderbird?

Sometimes when Thunderbird gets updated, my Anti-virus/firewall product (Norton) seems to think the new TB version is totally different and I had to set it to allow. On one occasion I had to set to block and then reset to allow to get it to accept the newer version.

I have Norton but am unable to access what is or not allowed past fire wall. And I don't think that would effect receiving e-mail on my phone.

re : I have Norton but am unable to access what is or not allowed past fire wall.

The last Thunderbird update, Version 38.3.0, was first offered to Release channel users on September 29, 2015. So people would start to update on or soon after that date. As you said 'This started over a month ago', it is possible the two instances are related.

The Firewall must be checked otherwise you could be going around in circles and not achieving anything, so you need to be sure that it is allowing the current version of Thunderbird, so we can rule out that issue.

Close Thunderbird Open Norton: In my 'Norton Internet security' it is here: 'Settings' > 'Firewall' >'Program Control' tab scroll down to see Thunderbird in list.

If it says 'Allow' already set it to block and click Apply then go back and set it to 'Allow' and click on 'Apply'

If it says 'Block' already, then click 'Allow' and then 'Apply'

If it does not have Thunderbird in list: then click on 'Add' locate the thunderbird.exe file It will be in either 'Program Files' or 'Program Files (x86)' if using 64bit click on OK to add then set to Allow and click on Apply.

Then restart Thunderbird.

You are having problems on your computer and your PHONE? Since Thunderbird does not run on phones this is probably not a Thunderbird issue. I also have Comcast and have been getting login errors periodically for the last couple of weeks. I think Comcast has been having issues. I just wait a few minutes and try again and it works.

Airmail: I do not think the problem is with comcast, since I can still get my E-mail with no problems from the Comcast home page

Toad head: I could not access the settings in my Norton security. so I uninstalled it. then tried thunderbird again . still no use. I guess I will have to try starting over from scratch, witch means I will lose all my saved addresses and E-mails.

Using webmail versus email servers proves nothing. Well other than you know your username and password. Please confirm your statement above about problems on your phone in addition to Thunderbird.
