I want to ask my correspondent to send me confirmation of receiving my mail
I want to install a button on the toolbar to ask for confirmation that my correspondent received my message.
Chosen solution
The current method available in thunderbird. On a per email basis: click on 'Write' to create a new email. Write email then click on 'Options' in the top Menu bar select 'Return Receipts' and or Delivery Status Notification' click on 'Send'
To set up an auto always request a return receipt and determine how Thunderbird handles return receipts:
Tools > Options > Advanced > General Tab or 3bar menu icon > Options > Options > Advanced > General Tab
- click on 'Return Receipts' button
- choose settings.
- click on OK
- click on OK to save changes Options.
Please note that the recipient can choose to ackowledge or not.

There is a setting to automatically ask for a read-receipt with every message you send, or you can ask on a per message basis.
Global settings (all accounts) 'Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Return Receipts'
Account settings (each account is separate) 'Tools - Account Settings - (select account- Return Receipts' (use global settings or settings in this window)
Per message setting Write window 'Options' tick 'Return Receipt' and/or tick 'Delivery Status Notification'
The recipient will be asked to 'confirm' that he read the message, but he may ignore the request and you will never know whether he received, opened or read the message.

I also noticed that there is no longer a Delivery Status notification for my emails. I select the option in the pull down menu, but no longer receive the DNS.
I did check the option in account settings for receipts, but I would like to know if it's possible to request DNS or if I have to download the addon.
