my newly received mail, downloaded BUT not read elsewhere, appears as read, ie not in BOLD, and an email I checked yesterday to 'unread' this morning appears as read, any ideas?

Is the mail being downloaded anywhere as POP? Most IMAP serv ers mark mail downloaded using POP as read. In the case if Outlook.com they even move it to another folder.
