Our home computer frequently locks up when using Firefox. It is currently running the latest Firefox and is a Windows Vista 32 bit Home Edition desktop computer by Dell. This has been occurring for a while now (since July?) I have tried to fix it by doing the following:

- Reset Firefox using the reset tool. There are no add-ons or extensions currently installed.
- Did a RAM test on the computer. (Passed)
- Updated drivers, including display drivers.
- Installed a graphics card.
- Cleaned out all the dust out of the case.

None of these has fixed the problem. The specific problem is while using Firefox the computer totally and permanently freezes. No keyboard or mouse input is recognized. No blue screen of death comes up. The only resolution is to press and hold the power button till it shuts down. I don't think it has ever occurred using any other program. It has occurred on many different websites, but Facebook is one that consistently seems to crash it within a couple minutes of being on it. I have not reverted yet to an older Firefox to try and fix it.

I am writing this from a different computer right now so I cannot "Share Data".

I finally determined the problem. It was Avast antivirus. I switched to Bitdefender and the lockup problems are gone. Maybe this will help someone else...
