With my TB 38.3 there is no "Reading & Display" tab

I want to try tabbed messages but can't since the "Reading & Display" tab is missing from Tools -> Options -> Advanced.

You are not looking in the correct place :)

'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Display' > 'Advanced' tab open messages in: select : 'a new tab'

click on OK.

click on OK.
