False update message 41.0.1 telling me to go and get an update, but when I do, I get congratulated because I'm already up to date! How do I break the Catch22?
I get a message telling me that there is a security/stability update available to 41.0.1, but that i have to go and get it manually because I (my computer) don't have permission to update... however when i follow the link to the Mozilla page, I get congratulated as having an up-to-date Firefox! - Catch 22 - and keeps coming back inspite of restarts and reboots.... grrrr!

Sorry about that. I updated the link to the GB version: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-41.0.2-SSL&os=osx&lang=en-GB

Sorry about that. Sounds like the site might be doing it on purpose because they are doing a "controlled release".
This means that they are only giving out the download in a small and limited way. In case something very buggy is found in the new Firefox, they can stop the release quickly and everyone won't have the bad version.
Try this direct download link for a copy of 41.0.2: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-41.0.2-SSL&os=osx&lang=en-US
Thanks for the reply - before I use (or not!) the link you've given me, please will you confirm (or not!) that this is the correct link for my version which is GB and not US (for spelling reasons, I don't want to update into the US version) Thanks in advance

One other thing: Firefox does not report the third part of the version number to websites, so sites only know you run 41.0. This may lead to a site "assuming" you are up-to-date even when an interim release is available...
That's got it sorted (at least for the moment - thanks Noah :-) I don't know if you can help(!) but I'll ask anyway: I'm trying out Thunderbird and at the moment it isn't offering me the English British dictionary - and this in spite of my Ffox being GB as you know(!)... Is there an update that I can do (WITHOUT trashing everything I have in/on Thunderbird!!) to switch it over to GB?
My goal is to get an autocorrect to work in my emails which are in both French and GB English so that my 'deja' becomes 'dejà' and my 'cna' becomes 'can'. I have searched and searched and can find nothing which offers me this possibility and without it, I'll have to give up on Thunderbird and go elsewhere - it is really that important for me... so any/all help would be grateful received :-)
Try downloading this British version of Thunderbird: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=thunderbird-38.3.0&os=osx&lang=en-GB
Then install it on top of your current Thunderbird install. That should do the trick. And if you're very worried about your Thunderbird getting trashed (and it sounds like you do), please backup the Thunderbird profile folder before doing this. See this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_backing-up-a-profile
Backup that folder twice to 2 separate locations if you have to. Because I want you to be sure as possible it's backed up properly. Plus I'm paranoid in general when it comes to data loss. :P
But for the most part, installing Firefox or Thunderbird on top of themselves does not cause data loss.
No need to go to https://download.mozilla.org links to download a specific language build.
Firefox www.mozilla.org/firefox/all Thunderbird https://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/all/
These are the Systems & Languages link below the green download button.
Thank you for your help - I'm getting there... I don't know if this connected but there remains a small problem (and it was there before I installed Thunderbird GB (38.3.0 on Mac) :
When I right click on a misspelled word, I get an increasingly long list of suggestions (previously underlined words). And if I click on 'Languages', I get UK English, French (classic/reform, classic , modern, reform), and that list of 5 choices gets added each time I right-click on a word (!!)
Any idea what the bug is - and what I can do about it?
