Firefox crashes

When ever I go to facebook with firefox it crashes. This started happening after I updated to the current version, then i downgraded to a older version and still the same effect. Currently I am at 41.0.2 . I initially was getting Flash errors on some vidoes, so i upgraded Flash and I still got the errors, which is why i then upgraded my firefox. I then went into safemode to see if it still crashes, it did. I then disabled all my plugins and extensions, restarted firefox and it still crashes on facebook. I can confirm that all those plugins and extensions are still not active. I have some report ID's for ya. Let me know if there is anything else I can do on my end. I appreciate your support!

Sorry to hear about the crashes. I looked at the first four links in your question and they are all the same sequence of events:

These crashes seem to be related to Firefox setting up to use your graphics card/chipset for video decoding:

mozilla::MediaFormatReader => mozilla::AppleVTDecoder => VideoToolbox => AppleGVA => etc.

The crash could be caused by Firefox not being fully compatible with your current graphics card/chipset driver software. Our support article suggests safe ways to check for updates: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.

If that doesn't help, you might be able to stop Firefox from submitting MP4 media to the system for decoding. Hopefully Facebook will then switch over to using a different format or Flash; I don't know what will happen. I have to note I'm running Windows and can't test this myself, but if you want to try it:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste media and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the media.apple.mp4.enabled preference to switch it from true to false

I'm not sure whether that disables it right away or after your next quit/start cycle. I suppose you'll know right away after visiting that video site! But please allow 30 seconds after the change so Firefox saves it to your preferences file on disk before crashing.

Any difference?

You also could try disabling Firefox from using hardware acceleration:

"3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. Any difference?
