how to download with a direct link address

How do I initiate a download if I have a direct link address? I really don't know what downloader is installed on my PC in Win10 and I can't locate it in my PC's list of programs. I use a VLC player.

You kind of files are you trying to download?

Is this about saving media files since you mentioned VLC?
