How do I make the Address pane open with the previous address folder?
When I open Write the addresses pane opens with All Addresses. This just happened this date. There is a previous question on this issue marked "Solved". It is not solved. There have since been 46 people with the same problem and there has been no solution. Please somebody can you please fix this? Thank you.

I marked it solved so it would appear on searches. open questions don't appear. pretty useless I know. But that is how it is.
It did not just start "this date" it started with the V38 release. and if you had read that thread you would know there is a bug that is being worked on. So thank you for our question. I consider this matter closed "solved" as I can do nothing more than answer your question. I do not do code.
Well, yes, I did read that thread, and the communication was a month old so it was reasonable to suppose that the bug had been fixed by now, if that's what the problem was.
On my computer the bug started today so it must have been today that I was gifted with this unwanted flaw.
I ask this question quite often and have never received a reply.
What is your workflow such that being able to see a list of Contacts is useful or efficient? Your computer is vastly more efficient at searching than you'll ever be. So why search through lists of names yourself?
Myself, I start typing in the name and the computer searches for me and presents a short list of what it has found. I don't care nor need to know which address book the required name came out of.
Who needs to search anything? I hit Personal Contacts and there's a list of my Personal Contacts. I hit Club Members and there's a list of Club Members? What's better than that?
At least I did before somebody broke Thunderbird -- now I have to manually open those folders, which is not a life-or-death problem but it's pretty lame.
It has been reported and developers are aware of this. But as this was an additional feature created because a few people shouted loud enough and someone took it on to create then we all have to live it at the moment. Basically - there was no ability to symultaneously search all address books. Now for those people who are organised or have fewer address books and fewer contacts then this was never an issue. But if you had several large address books, it was a time consuming process to check for a contact, hence the 'All Address books'.
Why the option to create a virtual address book that was auto selected by default and displayed abolutely everything regardless is beyond belief. Created by someone with good honest intentions, knowledge of code, but naive when it comes to knowing how a search should work or how this would effect users who do not want nor need it. Since when did a search facility auto display the lot before any parameters were entered. The search should have been in the standard generic way, search for what and where, with option to search all. Not display all and then search all.
Unfortunately, at the moment we have to live with. I believe they are looking into how to allow users to set a default, so that once selected eg: Personal Address Book, then upon opening it would always select the default.
