When I open Thunderbird the Message Pane shows up. I have gone to View, Layout and deselected the Message Pane but it will show up again when I open Thunderbird. When I look at the layout again, the Message Pane is checked marked again. I have to deselect the Message Pane continually. This is a security issue for me in that some e-mail security issues are activated by just having the e-mail displayed in the Message Pane.

I always update Thunderbird immediately when a new version is released. Can you solve this problem because it has been an issue for me for quite some time and several Thunderbird updates.

Tell CCleaner to leave Thunderbird alone. Uncheck everything CCleaner offers to 'clean' related to Thunderbird. If you use Firefox, do the same.

Are you using CCleaner?

I am using CCleaner. What does that have to do with Thunderbird and the problem I'm having with the Message Pane automatically being re-selected every time I open Thunderbird. I am concerned because some malware and viruses are activated just by viewing the email. If the Message Pane view is active a bad email could be displayed (and activate something bad) before I can close the message pane.

Christ1,

That seems to have solved my problem. I even did a re-boot to make sure that the T-Bird view was without the Message Pane. Thanks for your help!

Now I have to figure out how to get rid of all of the cache that T-Bird and FireFox leaves behind.

Thanks again, Billibus
