Firefox 40 on Win 10 does not remember to "stay signed in"
I already read answers to Q.1040267 and Q.1054094. None of that solved the problem.
Simpy stated Firefox does not remember the status "stay signed in" (or whatever the web sites call that) when checked and neither the fact that I acknowledged the usual message: "By using this website, you agree we may place these cookies on your device". Every time I start Firefox EVERY site displays the cookies msg. and EVERY site I was logged on has logged me out. It is not a problem with the config option, as I have the normal cfg.: Accept cookies from sites - Accept third-party cookies: Always - Keep until: They expire (No exceptions). Clear history when Firefox closes is NOT checked. Always use private browsing mode is NOT checked.
I tried to completely wipe out Firefox (profile included) and reinstalled it with a newly generated profile (but sync'd with sync). Nothing changed.

Thank you very much for your help cor-el. The solution was a little more complex than that and yet something I would suggest doing to anyone having problem with their Firefox: CHECK THE EFFING ADDONS/PLUGINS! :) In my case an addon had the option "clear cookies" active.
I dont know if I can flag my own reply as "this solved the problem".

Does this work during a session (i.e. you close all tabs and reopen a tab to the site at a later time)?
Did you check if the cookies are still there when you restart Firefox?
If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.
- Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.
Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen).
