Hi, For a week now my Firefox internet connection has been unstable. Typically after opening a new tab I need to click the "Try again" button on the "Server not found"-page several times (5-10) to finally create a connection.

I am running Firefox 39.0 on Win XP Pro SP3. Firewall settings look ok. Browsing and virus protection is by F-Secure (up-to-date). Unfortunately the problem appears not to be affecting Firefox alone (Chrome and Outlook email access are similarly unstable).

I am using a shared wifi connection via a Windowsphone, and can connect with the phone's browser without issues (so I don't think the problem is ISP related).

I performed a full virus scan without issues reported.

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!

Chosen solution

I seemed to have found a solution by modifying the DNS server definitions. I unchecked Obtain DNS server addresses automatically and specified the preferred and alternate DNS server addresses (used 8 8 8 8 and 8 8 4 4 respectively).

Contact your ISP and have them test your service.

Unplug your modem(s) for a 10 count, then restore to re-boot it.

Installed Plug-ins

Shockwave Flash 18.0 r0

Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.0.5.146 Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.0.6.147
Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Flash Player Version 18.0.0.209

Note: Windows users must download the “Internet Explorer” and “Plugin-based browsers” installers.

Thanks! Unfortunately the problem remains after re-installing Flash Player and Shockwave. Also, I don't think it is ISP related since my mobile data connection works fine (same connection that I am sharing from my laptop). And ISP has not reported problems in my area.
