Firefox fullscreen mode in Windows 8/8.1

more options

Currently developing a web based e-kiosk application with Windows 8/8.1 tablet and Firefox browser.

When developing, I experienced frustration trying to switch from full screen mode to normal mode. There is no gesture that can easily bring back the menu button from its hidden state (full screen mode hides menu button).

I have tried Chrome and found it is very easy to do this, you just need to tap the top portion of the browser window to UN-hide the toolbar and voila the menu button is there for you.

I am currently leaning more towards Firefox because I have been accustomed with its developer tool and firebug/firephp also its tons of great plugin. But seeing Chrome does this very easy makes me disappointed.

Is there a plan to make Firefox to have simple tap gesture in the top portion to bring back the menu button? Please do implement this seemingly non trivial but important functionality.

I think you're right that there needs to be an easier way. The workaround of calling up a virtual keyboard to press F11 is a pain: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1064932.

There is a bug on file for this that you could "vote" to get fixed (I don't know how many votes are needed to give it more priority): 1140819 – There is no obvious way to exit fullscreen on a tablet when the app doesn't do it. See:

Is it likely that users of your app will fullscreen the Firefox window? Perhaps by using the (admittedly experimental) API to fullscreen the document and provide your own UI you can bypass this issue for the majority of users: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/Guide/API/DOM/Using_full_screen_mode
