how do I remove lightning interface and calendar it is blocking my email
with the recent 38 update my email is no longer working. the last time this happened it was the lighting calendar that caused this problem. Now you have integrated the lightning in the 38 up date. How do I remove ?

Same problem here, getting no help at all. Looks like an end to Thunderbird for me.

Like any add-on you go to the tools menu, select add-ons and disable or remove it. I really think it will have nothing at all to do with you getting mail though.
already tried that and there is no add on to delete the up date notice that I got said that the calendar was integrated into the up date, Not sure that is the problem but was the solution on the last up date I got At a loss what to do, is there a real person in my area that can help

my solution was to delete / remove thunderbird and thus the recent up date 38.1 Then I reloaded most recent prior version of thunderbird. this seems to have solved problem. Also, disengaged the auto update function for thunderbird to manual. But, frankly I think I will be moving on away from thunderbird; can't continue to deal with these "improvements" that they keep pushing out.
Jst so you know. It is more than likely your anti virus that caused the problem, not Thunderbird. So you might consider getting one that works better. Anti virus programs are such pigs we maintain a page just for them. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues I would even guess your using Norton's. Why? Because every time a program not from Microsoft updates Norton's sulks and blocks the updates version.
Then again it could be that you are caught up on the LogJam fix, where insecure mail servers do not connect to the most recent version because it disables their obsolete and broken security. If that is the case you are electing to expose yourself to man in the middle hacking.
But hey, that head in the sand reversion to an old version and disabling updates will work for a month or two. What then? Web mail from Google?
I came here looking to resolve an entirely different problem, but I have to say, Matt, that you may be mistaken about Lightning. It was perhaps a couple of years ago that I attempted to copy and paste text to another date in my Lightning calendar, when Lightning locked up on me. I had to start Thunderbird in safe mode, and to this day if I allow a Tbird update to install, I must again open in safe mode and get rid of Lightning to restore normal use of Tbird. In short, Lightning simply kills Thunderbird until I go in and kill Lightning.

And that makes me wrong how. It just conclusively points me to you having a corrupt Lightning install. Nothing more. So if you want assistance fixing your corrupt Lightning install, please post your own topic for that.
But I would suggest deleting the folder {e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103} in your Thunderbird profile while Thunderbird is closed and lightning is uninstalled along with the calendar-data folder.
