How can I quickly move all my booksmarks to a desktop folder

more options

Hello ...... I must have 200 or more bookmarks. What a mess. My fault. Must be getting old. How can I move all of them in one big swoop into a folder on the desktop ? I'm still using XP pro and Firefox is version 39. I've already made a folder called bookmarks. I can put them in manually but that will take all day.  :-( Thanks

Chosen solution

I'm not aware of a fast way to copy multiple Firefox bookmarks to Windows Favorites, which is what happens when you drag them individually to the desktop or another folder. Are you doing that to make it easier to access them?

I think if I needed to do that, I would use IE as an intermediate tool:

(1) In the Windows Favorites folder, move everything into a new folder as a backup (e.g., IE-FAVES)

(2) Use one of the methods in this Microsoft support article to import your Firefox bookmarks into IE, which will add them to the Windows Favorites folder: How to transfer bookmarks from Mozilla Firefox to Internet Explorer 9

Then you have the choice to access them there or move them to the folder of your choice.

Longer term you could group them into appropriate folders(such as Media, Weather, Sports, Travel, TV, etc etc on your Bookmarks Toolbar. Much easier to work with. Save new bookmarks directly to the appropriate folder.

That figures. Hey I don't think IE works anymore. Ancient computer. I'll just have to move a few everyday. It would be a nice feature to have a cleanup and relocate button.

Maybe it didn't fit on the main toolbar. Do you have an overflow button on the main toolbar, which looks like a fat version of ">>"? If not, maybe the buttons are available to add to the bar using the Customize feature: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars. Of course, if you use the classic menu bar, you might not need those icons anyway.
