How do I use Mistral font (installed in Windows) in Thunderbird 38.0.1?

Mistral and several other fonts are installed in Windows 7. In earlier versions of Thunderbird I was able to use MIstral and all of the other fonts in Windows without difficulty. Mistral and many other fonts in Windows 7 are now unavailable in Thunderbird 38.0.1. Why are these fonts--especially Mistral--now unavailable in Thunderbird 38.0.1 and how do I correct this problem?

I use Mistral for my personal signature and it is extremely inconvenient and irritating to find it is suddenly unavailable.

Your assistance will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Gloria Eive

Thank you, Matt., but I'm afraid we have still not resolved the Thunderbird problem. Mistral is a TrueType font and has been easily accessible in every edition of Thunderbird prior to the current version: 38.0.1. Evidently the technicians who designed this update have changed something in the program so that TrueType fonts are no longer accessible. I need to use Mistral. Italic settings and the other options available in Thunderbird 38.0.1 are not acceptable.

The question then is 'How do I access TrueType fonts in Thunderbird 38.0.1?

Many thanks, Gloria Eive geive@silcon.com

I do not have Mistral Gloria, so if you send me an email I will not see it even if you select it. What I will see is the ugly member of the font family I have installed in the font family script. Probably brush script as my HTML rendering engine goes looking for a close substitute.

Mistral is ONLY going to be available to people who have one of the following software packages installed. Nothing released by Microsoft in the last 5 years is included in the list, it is unlikely most people have it.

Access 97 SR2 1.50 Greetings 99 2.00 Home Publishing 99 2.00 Office 2007 2.10 Office 2007 Home-Student Edition 2.10 Office 2007 Professional Edition 2.10 Office 2010 1.10 Office 97 Small Business Edition SR2 1.50 Office 97 SR1a 1.50 Office Professional Edition 2003 2.10 Picture It! 2000 2.10 Picture It! 2002 2.10 Publisher 2000 2.00 Publisher 2007 2.10 Publisher 97 1.50 TrueType Font Pack 2 1.10 Windows Small Business Server 2003 2.10 Works 4.5a 1.10 Works 9 2.10

I am only guessing, but perhaps the font is not a unicode font and so is not available to a unicode composer such as Thunderbird.

Did you not understand. The only one seeing mistral is you, and the odd one you communicate with that has one of the listed programs installed.

It is of no relevance at all if you can select it. No one else can see it. Email is not like a PDF document where the font goes with the email. The person you send to must have the font installed as well.

You are stuck in I have it and want to use it. I am stuck in it does not matter if you can or not as it makes no difference to the recipient as they probably do not have the font installed.

I do not think is it that the font is a TTF. I have TTF fonts in Thunderbird. I think it is that the mistral font is not a unicode font. But I don't have it to check.

This site lists some of the very few web safe fonts that should be used in email http://webdesign.about.com/od/fonts/qt/web-safe-fonts.htm

Matt,

Mistral and other TrueType fonts were quite visible and were usable in previous editions of Thunderbird (prior to 38/.0.1) . The problem is the current version of Thunderbird--38.0.1--which has stopped accepting TrueType fonts such as Mistral.
