How do I block websites, even when other sites reference them?

I lose a lot of time while sites I want to use are reading ads or other garbage from doubleclick.net, scorecardresearch.com, flashtalking.com, and others. The small box above the Start button shows that is happening. How do I prevent Firefox from connecting to these unwanted sites when a webpage requests them? I just installed the Leech add-on and it doesn't stop them.
