Web Technology as an applet alternative accessing client machine file system

Posted

Since now support for Java applets is being removed from latest browser. Also current/legacy browsers also restrict the java plugin, which is required to run java applet. What web technology could be used as an alternative- specifically where applets were accessing client machine file system?
