Firefox is like the plague for my computer dramatically slowing it down as soon as it opens

As soon as I open firefox it automatically slows down the whole computer the only way that I can quit firefox is to force quit it. Turning off hardware acceleration doesn't help one bit either.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

That only made the problem even worse.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.


Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
