I've been using new firefox Sync since it's was implemented with no problem. I got this error after doing the following steps:

1)Replaced old disk with new SSD disk and installed Windows 7 drivers etc + Firefox 2) Deleted AAA@***.com Firefox Sync account 3) Created BBB@***.com Firefox Sync account 4) Imported my latest bookmarks from E:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\****.default\bookmarkbackups folder from old disk.

Since then every time I open Firefox I get the above error. If I enter the password in "Firefox Sync" sync works fine till next time I restart Firefox.

I believe I have tried all solutions proposed on firefox support forums and Firefox Sync Troubleshooting. Amongst others I have:

1) done Firefox Refresh 2) deleted signedInUser.json, restarted firefox with add-ons disabled, Forget Firefox Sync account, Reconnect to account 3) Deleted Firefox Sync Account and Recreated it 4) Uninstalled completely firefox with Revo Uninstaller, Deleted C:\Users\*****\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\ folder, reinstalled firefox.

Thanks a million.

You pointed me towards the correct direction. Password Manager was enabled but It seems that firefox had reset my privacy settings.

All I had to do was go to my Privacy Settings, and under my History Custom Settings, click on Settings next to "Clear History when Firefox closes" and uncheck "Saved Passwords" as in the following image

Did you make sure that the Password Manager is working and stores the credentials of the Sync account?

The Sync version used in Firefox 34 and later uses the password manager to store the name (e-mail) and password to be used to connect to the Sync server. The chrome://FirefoxAccounts entry in the password manager stores the authentication data (kA and kB) in JSON format. Previous Firefox versions stored this data in the signedInUser.json file in the profile folder, but the current version only stores the sessionToken in this file and needs the password manager for the password.

  • chrome://FirefoxAccounts (Firefox Accounts credentials)

Make sure that you allow cookies for the accounts.firefox.com domain if you aren't allowing cookies generally or use the 'Ask me' cookie setting or use extensions that deal with cookies. Various data is stored in localStorage and sessionStorage, so make sure that DOM storage is enabled.

Also make sure that your security software isn't blocking the cookies.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.
