I have been told to update my 'silverlight plug-in' but I get a security warning about this.
Regarding my question, firstly, should I ignore this warning and go ahead? And, secondly, what exactly does 'silverlight' do and do I actually need it? Any answers would be most grateful to me.......:)

Silverlight is a media playing plugin used by some sites, most notably Netflix.
Since any site might fire up some Silverlight media -- if you have it set to Ask to Activate, Firefox will alert you to this -- it's a little difficult to predict the next time you might need to use it.
