Problems sending from Tiscali account: error message out.ipsmtp2nec.opaltelecom.net

If I try to send a message from my Tiscali account I get the following message:

An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: out.ipsmtp2nec.opaltelecom.net.

I tried resetting the account from POP to IMAP but had the same problem. Messages from other accounts go out OK and if I log on to the TalkTalk page I can send messages from the Tiscali account.

I had that too when recently re-trying an old lineone account. I assumed the tiscali/talktak server is broke.

Have you asked them (talktalk) about it?

Asked both talktalk and my broadband provider. No replies but the problems gone away!
