I've got Microsoft and google accounts plus I also checked my ISP account and all of them do it. After I send an item if I go and check sent items there are always two identical message there. I am running Linux Mint but I had the same problem under OpenSuse as well.

Chosen solution

For Gmail and Hotmail/outlook.com accounts, uncheck "Place a copy in" under Tools/Account Settings/accountname/Copies & Folders, since both of these services automatically copy sent messages to the Sent folder.

Thanks. That resolved the problem. I must say that it is a little misleading that one is given the option to save the email when it is already beaing done!
