My browser is hijacked
Firefox is my default browser on my XP-Pro SP3. Yesterday, my Windows 7 would not start. In trying to fix that problem, I used this XP to try and make a startup floppy. The file I downloaded was so full of malware that, after two runs of eScan, subsequent running of Baidu Antivirus, Malwarebytes' AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware, I am still getting both popups and ads inserted into websites that normally did not have them. My Windows 7 is still down; but now, though I should be thankful I have a running XP computer, my Firefox default browser is infected with this malware causing popups so troublesome that I cannot use the Internet effectively. In fact, I think the hijacking is so effective that I have had trouble with password acceptance.
Chosen solution
The site I used is pcpitstop.com, where they offer many useful utilities, some free while others are for payment. After resetting browsers and backing up bookmarks, the scans I ran were AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool. With AdwCleaner, one must review a log of proposed actions after an initial scan in order to avoid removing something legitimate.

Hello troothteller, please try ALL of these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software, because each one detect different kind of malware:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
thank you
ideato, I hope we are not being intentionally redundant. I know people on these sites use "canned answers" frequently. However, I know at least one program you mentioned I already named as having run. Also, any Microsoft program of this kind takes an unnecessary long length of time to run.
If there is malware on your computer then your only option in to use various scanners because each of those programs picks up different malware. Otherwise you would have to ask advice at a malware oriented forum or reinstall Windows.
If using various malware scanners does not fix it or if you are blocked from installing those scanners then ask advice at a forum that specializes in malware removal.

It is not bad to use a "canned answer" if it is useful and helpful :-)
thanks again
To all, I found the solution on another site where someone specifically identified what I should run. This malware was just a nuisance, or moderately malicious. In getting rid of it, however, I did not want to take a shot in the dark. Thanks for your availability.
It is great you solve it. Please share it in our forum, the malware, the cleaning program, maybe it is helpful for other people in the future.
thank you

Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support.
Solved.
I have the same antivirus on both my Windows 7 and XP systems, Baidu. Yesterday, I one of my computers, I think the XP, it picked up as I was updating, some component of SeaMonkey, your product replacing Mozilla suite. Running Baidu on both computers, it picked up nothing. Baidu merely needed permission to update SeaMonkey. I do not know what Baidu found suspicious about SeaMonkey as to prevent it from updating. Anyway, I am certain that my systems run clean despite yesterday's distraction.
