I have the box unchecked in my settings, the box about switching to new tabs automatically. But my browser does this any way. I do not want to switch to new tabs automatically. Help.

Is this a tab you opened, or did it open on its own?

MClickFocusTab {web link} While using mouse middle-click to open new tabs, with a short- time clicking to open new tabs in background, with a long-time clicking to open new tabs in foreground.

The setting in Options/Preferences > Tabs only applies to links that specify a target window. For link that open in the current tab you need to middle-click or hold Ctrl and left-click a link or use the right-click context menu.

If you open a new tab by clicking the plus button on the Tab bar then you always set focus to that tab.

Note that you can hold the Shift key to toggle the focus (open in background) setting set in Options/Preferences when you use a middle-click or Ctrl and left-click a link to open the link in a new tab.
