Firefox can not find server

Firefox cannot find any server requested by web address. I have tried turning the firewall on and off, checked that both Firefox and Thunderbird are allowed. Suspect that a module is either corrupted or missing. I would like to be able to download Firefox to a cd on another pc but that doesnt appear to be an option.
