I keep getting duplicate incoming emails. I need to know how I can stop this. I use Thunderbird on Bigpond. I had experienced this some time ago but it then seemed to stop and now it has recently started to happen again. Is there any solution to this please?

Best of British... If you can get anything useful from Bigpond support I will be surprised. Last time I rang them all they wanted to do was blame outlook which was not even installed.

Bigpond have been outsourcing their mail through Micrisift outlook.com. This service appears to have some issues, as I to have duplicated mails at time from Outlook.com.

Basically I think the service has issues. Normaly I would disable email scanning in the anti virus product, and it might help in your case, but as I have issues with a single account out of 22mail account around the world I just blame the outlook.com POP service for being less than stable.

As IMAP is the mail protocol supported by Windows 8 and therefore important to Microsoft from a marketing perspective, I have not heard of any issues with it. and my test IMAP account on OUTLOOK.com does not suffer from the issue.

I do not have an outsourced Bigpond account to comment on, I only have the old Bigpond mail and that is stable with no duplicates.

Thank you for the response. I am not fully sure what Matt is talking about as I am not that IT literate! I appreciate the response and I think I will take the piece about the service that Bigpond provides with outlook and tackle the problem at the source, so to speak, and see if I can get any sense(?) form Bigpond.

I got on to Bigpond and I got an extremely helpful operator who seemed to know what he was about and it looks like he fixed the problem via a remote logon. I could not keep up with all he did but he indicated that the popstate(?) file could have been the problem and he renamed it. He mentioned that he had encountered this type of problem before. I will see how it goes for now.
