Firefox presents no problems with popups in contrast with Thunderbird. In Thunderbird popup window for e.g. Tools or Settings opens in mini size and is elusive, unreadable and unclickable. For this reason it is, for example, impossible to print any email messages. Printing is no porblem with Firefox.

That will depend on what the delivery method is. If it is an EXE file, run it. It will wither create an installer or actually do the install. Most common these days is do the install, as your not alone in your limited skiill set.

Thanks Matt. The AMD update file did in fact include an installer which made the actual driver update a simple procedure which did not need any particular skills as you suggested, perfect for someone like me. The new AMD Catalyst control center includes, among others, the option for checking driver updates; I will use of it frequeently.

With this driver update, Thunderbird now performs normally, including popup windows (even when not in safe mode), that is, the PROBLEM IS SOLVED.

Thank you very much, Matt and the rest of Mozilla Support team! There is real strength in teamwork.
