And another question is could I be selective - remove icons only from some bookmarks and leave it for some other? I have win 7. What plugin (or something) I should use with 34.0.5 version of Firefox? I couldn't find 'text only' option. Thank you, Efim

As of right now, this is not a built in option for Firefox. In the future, there may be a text only option, but I don't believe that there will be a selective text only option.

You can browse through the addons website to try an find an addon with this feature. I looked for one and the only thing that I think could be used to help you would possibly be Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.

You can also do this without an extension with code in the userChrome.css file.

Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#PlacesToolbarItems > .bookmark-item > .toolbarbutton-icon {display:none!important}

The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
  • Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userChrome.css file in the chrome folder (file name is case sensitive)
  • Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the editor window
  • Make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
  • Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css.
    Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userChrome.css.txt file
