The tab will not close.
Each time it is pushed, another tab opens.

Hello,
Force close Firefox using the Task Manager (note: if you are running in private browsing mode, the tabs will be lost - try bookmarking the ones you still need, although if you have a malicious link open I suggest you not do anything that requires giving away personal/login information).
I would also recommend you run scans to make sure nothing was installed on your computer. You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
After scanning (with at least the first two on that list), hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut to open Firefox in safe mode. Check for suspicious extensions in:
- Tools (or
) > Options > General
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
If the above doesn't help, we need some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:
- Use ONE of these methods to open the Firefox Troubleshooting Information page:
- Click the menu button
, click on help
and select Troubleshooting Information.
- Type about:support into the Firefox address bar and press the enter key.
- Click the menu button
- At the top of the Troubleshooting Information page that comes up, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
- Now, go back to your forum post, right-click in the reply box and select Paste from the context menu (or else click inside the reply box and press the Ctrl+V keys) to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

You can open the about:config page in a new tab and temporarily disable JavaScript by toggling the javascript.enabled to false on the about:config page.
That should allow to close the tab. Toggle the javascript.enabled pref to true once done.
You can set the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes pref to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first start after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
