I'm currently using Firefox version 32.0.3. I have the "Behind the Overlay" extension installed. The icon does not display in the upper right-hand corner.

The "Behind the Overlay" icon did display correctly at first, but since the browser automatically updates, could it be that this extension is not compatible with the latest version of Firefox? As a test, I uninstalled this latest version of Firefox and installed version 31.0.0. It made no difference. The icon was still missing. So far I haven't found any information about this anomaly online. Any help will greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Unfortunately they didn't resolve my issue. I had "Always Use Private Browsing Mode" enabled in the Options/Privacy/History settings for the browser. This caused the "Behind the Overlay" icon to disappear. I disabled this setting. Now I'm using the default browsing mode and the icon is now visible.

If you haven't already, check the Customize panel to see whether the missing icon is in there. This article describes how to use that feature: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

You might also double-check that the extension is enabled on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. If it is disabled, it will be toward the bottom on a gray background.
