Well, Firefox definitely should not uninstall itself... you might want to check for other explanations, particularly questionable software. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These programs are free and take some time to run. If they seem to finish quickly and require a payment to actually do anything, your system may have a more serious infection. In that case, please try the specialized forums listed in the article.
Have you tried Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems {web link}
firefox did not uninstall all my files are still there except firefox.exe so nothing will start when I click on the icon ps my desktop icon disapeared and was replaced with the windows search tool
I was worried that it would overwrite all of my other files
The user profiles are kept in a folder in the user folder on the computer.
Use the full installer above. This should overwrite the old FF folder.
downloaded and installed the full version and still no firefox.exe
If you are using Windows, run most or all of these programs.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
