Starts, dialogue window Checking compatibility appears, quits and launches Crash Reporter. Installed Firefox from the FireFox homepage, the same result. Macosx 10.6.8. Tried to clean up and removed the plist at the user level, no result. It crashes when the Checkng dialogue ahs reached some Addons, I think that it is Privacy Checker and Tracker. Here is the report generated by Crash reporter: AdapterDeviceID: 0x6741 AdapterVendorID: 0x1002 BuildID: 20140716183446 CrashTime: 1408552253 Email: dariush@wanadoo.fr FramePoisonBase: 7ffffffff0dea000 FramePoisonSize: 4096 InstallTime: 1408531271 Notes: AdapterVendorID: 0x1002, AdapterDeviceID: 0x6741 ProductID: {ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} ProductName: Firefox ReleaseChannel: release SecondsSinceLastCrash: 40 StartupTime: 1408552252 Throttleable: 1 Vendor: Mozilla Version: 31.0

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing when you open it. Please do the following to give us crash IDs that will help us understand more about the crash.

  1. (OS X 10.6 or previous) Click the Finder icon in the dock. Your home folder will be selected. In the right side of the window, click the Library folder to open it. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
    (OS X 10.7 or above) Click the Finder icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the Go menu, hold down the option or alt key and select Library. A window will open containing your Library folder. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
  2. Open the 5 most recent files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  3. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Hmmm, odd. Have you tried creating a fresh Profile and seeing if Firefox will start up there? Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

Are you using any special devices for certificates?

  • PK11PasswordPromptRunnable::RunOnTargetThread() obj-firefox/x86_64/dist/include/nsCOMPtr.h
  • mozilla::psm::SyncRunnableBase::Run() security/manager/ssl/src/PSMRunnable.cpp

You can try to delete or rename the signons.sqlite and key3.db and possibly the cert8.db and secmode.db files i the Firefox profile folder.

Thank you indeed for your replies. I was away from my internet-connected computer for a few days. I did this: removed some files with sqlite ending and one key3.db, the application started, https didn't work, I reset from the support page and now it seems to work, well, the GUI icon for Firefox doesn't show. I am not sure if this has any implications other than being a pure aesthetic detail. If anything, I will report again. Thank you again for your help.
